The main event for the Blackpool stop of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) has ended with Jonny Gray taking the title and its £69,000 ($104,851) cash prize.
The Scot was the last man standing from 275 starters for the £1,090 ($1,655) buy-in tournament and won the title after surviving an epic heads-up battle with Yiannis Liperis. It took the best part of four hours to separate the final pair with Gray riding his luck to battle back from a seemingly hopeless position and seal victory. With play extending into the early hours of Monday morning it took a flip to end it with Gray's pocket 6s finally prevailing against Liperis' Q9.The final day at the Grosvenor Casino Blackpool started with 18 players still hopeful of seaside glory. It didn't take long to whittle the field down to a final table of nine featuring recent major event winners Yucel Eminoglu and Colin Gillon. However, their hopes for more silverware stalled in sixth and fourth respectively although they still walked away with five-figure pay-days.The local rail was strongly behind home favourite Arthur Harvey but the Blackpool veteran eventually departed in third, which paved the way for the lengthy confrontation between Liperis and Gray. The GUKPT caravan is now heading to London for its Grand Final, which will run from November 22 to 29 and offer a £2,125 ($3,228) buy-in main event featuring a £400,000 ($607,813) guarantee. The first of two opening flights from The Grosvenor Victoria Casino London kicks off on November 26 with players able to qualify online for as little as £3.30 ($5) via GUKPT.com.GUKPT Blackpool Main Event Results:1 Jonny Gray - £69,0002 Yiannis Liperis - £61,0003 Arthur Harvey - £32,2004 Colin Gillon - £20,9005 Lukas Dimsa - £14,3006 Yucel Eminoglu - £10,7007 Dennis Troake - £8,5008 Andrew Hulme - £6,9009 Neville White - £5,750
