A slightly disappointing field of 92 runners gathered at the Sandcastle Casino in Blackpool yesterday for the opening flight of the GUKPT Blackpool Main Event.
There were plenty of notable names amongst that starting field including Neil Channing, Jeff Kimber, Michael Greco, Tony Cascarino and defending champion Priyan de Mel but none of those illustrious names will be back for Day 2. By bagging up time it was Richard Buck with a stack of 88,500 chips, who was at the top of counts.Joining Buck at the top of the leader board were Michael Fletcher and Jason Herbert who had amassed stacks of 85,900 and 80,300 respectively. A total of 38 players made it through to Day 2 including WSOP bracelet winner Richard Ashby, Main Event finalist Jon Kalmar and our very own Paul Jackson. The Day 1B action starts at 2pm today with a much bigger field than yesterday expected. There has been plenty of action in Blackpool prior to the start of the Main Event with a number of side tournaments already decided. Arshad Hussain outlasted a 122 runner field to take down the £150 NL freezeout for £5,500. The £100 rebuy was won by Gregory Garrett for £2,920 with Andrew Purser beating a 211 player field to take the £11,830 first prize in the £200 freezeout. It's been a fantastic few days for Purser who also took the £150 PLO rebuy event for a further £7,170. 106 players bought in for the £500 freezeout with Mohammed Kazi taking the honours for £16,170.
