This year’s edition of the unusual Groundhog Day holiday will take place in the United States this Friday and Intertops Poker and Juicy Stakes are set to join in the fun with by running a commemorative poker tournament with $500 in the pot.

The Horizon Poker Network sites revealed that this $5.50 buy-in Big Batch Tournament is scheduled to kick off from 8pm New York time on February 2 complete with three-minute blinds and 25,000-chip starting stacks.

“While millions watch a groundhog in Pennsylvania crawl out of its hole on Groundhog Day, Intertops Poker and Juicy Stakes poker players will be playing a Big Batch Tournament,” read a statement from the pair. “Groundhog Day is a popular tradition in the United States and Canada where warmer spring weather is often greatly anticipated. According to urban legend, if the groundhog known as ‘Punxsutawney Phil’ sees his shadow when he comes out of his burrow on that day, there will be six more weeks of winter. A cloudy day on February 2 means spring is on its way.”

Intertops Poker and Juicy Stakes declared that they are ‘known all over the world for their busy poker rooms’ but moreover offer ‘a selection of slot and table games’ from developers BetSoft Gaming Limited, Lucktap and World Match.
