Fitzwilliam Festival Returns Next Month

They say that some things in life are unavoidable (death, taxes and your pocket queens never holding up), and with the inevitability of the changing of the seasons, the annual Fitzwilliam Poker Festival is upon us again.

A five-day feast of poker at Ireland’s favourite poker room, from Wednesday, November 27th to Sunday, December 1st, the festival includes challenging tournaments to suit all pockets, with generous starting stacks and extended blind levels across an attractive range of formats. The showpiece events are undoubtedly the ubiquitous €270 End-of-Month Freezeout (Thursday) and the Festival Main Event €540 Freezeout (a two-day contest, spanning Saturday and Sunday) and competition is expected to be fierce to claim either title.

Wednesday’s 8.30pm €55 Super Satellite will provide the final opportunity for cost-conscious players to secure a seat in the Main Event. The €50 multi-rebuy format is certain to generate multiple tickets and an aggressive in-house schedule of satellites and raffles throughout September and October has swelled the numbers considerably.

Thursday’s 8.30pm, €270 End-of-Month Freezeout is a much-loved staple of the Dublin poker calendar, with regular attendees representative of the four provinces. With a nod to the festival, blind levels will be extended to 30 minutes throughout. Some claim that it’s the legendary roast rib of beef that regularly attracts upwards of 125 runners!

Friday’s 8.30pm €125 Scalps Rebuy tournament is expected to be the perfect warm-up for prospective main event participants – there will be considerable play in a 9,000 starting stack, with a single re-buy or add-on of 10,000 chips for €50 and 30-minute blind levels throughout.

Saturday hosts day one of the festival’s €540 main event. With a 6pm start, 30,000 chip starting stack and 45-minute blinds (after the first three 30-minute levels), this fixture is likely to appeal to the more discerning (and disciplined) player. The regular €110 freezeout will also be available at 8.30pm. The action will reconvene at 6pm on Sunday.

In addition to day two of the Main Event, Sunday’s 8:30pm €55 Win the Button is a quirky schedule closer, with a single re-buy or add-on for €50. The €65 Triple Chance PLO at 9pm adds more variety to the festival and is sure to attract a decent field of Omaha specialists.
