Fedor Holz Wins Alpha8 Las Vegas

Fedor Holz Wins Alpha8 Las Vegas

Monday, 21 December 2015

Fedor Holz is celebrating by far the biggest win of his live tournament career after taking down the latest World Poker Tour (WPT) $100,000 buy-in Alpha8 super high-roller event in Las Vegas.

The German topped a field of 45 entrants at the Bellagio Hotel And Casino yesterday to pocket $1,589,219 after starting the final day with around 40 percent of the chips in play.

The final Sunday action began with eight remaining players while only seven of these were due to leave with any cash. Donnie Peters was the unfortunate bubble boy after being, perhaps predictably, eliminated by Holz.

Despite the huge sums of money on offer, the action remained brisk with the winner being crowned in just north of 100 hands. After Daniel Negreanu hit the rail in third, only Nick Petrangelo stood in the way of Holz. The eventual champion then put his two-to-one chip advantage to good use and sealed victory after only around 30 minutes of heads-up play when his pocket fives prevailed against the American's A-Q.

This latest windfall dwarfs Holz's previous best live payout of $372,208, which he won after finishing in seventh spot at the European Poker Tour (EPT)’s April Grand Final in Monte Carlo, and takes his career earnings to over $3.7 million.
