Fabien Sartoris leads WPT Malta after Day 1a

Wednesday, 21 September 2011

While in Atlantic City one WPT event is well underway, another is kicking off in Malta with Day 1a of WPT Malta concluding yesterday. Fabien Sartoris leads the way, having turned his 30,000 into 127,350.

Other big stacks include Thomas Wolff and November Niner Matt Giannetti. One of the highlights of the day was Phil Hellmuth, who arrived at the end of level five (150/300) and busted within a few minutes after 3-betting to 3,000 from the small blind. The raiser called and Hellmuth led out on a Q-5-3 board before moving all-in on the 4 turn.

Hellmuth had sweet F.A. with K-7 and had managed to run into the monster hand of... ace high and a straight-draw. The Poker Brat missed the river and went back to the hotel after a notable short day.

Tomorrow, any players – Hellmuth? – wishing to re-enter the event after busting Day 1a can do so, so expect the field to swell past the 101 mark.
