PokerStars’ EUREKA Poker Tour Croatia kicked off on Sunday and after two opening days of action the total number of entrants reached 283.
The prospect of a PokerStars run event and the chance to play against some of Europe’s top players for just €1,100 certainly helped boost the field in spite of the WSOP luring many grinders across to Las Vegas. When the final totals were in the prizepool had breached the €250,000 mark but by the close of yesterday’s session only 105 players remained in contention for the top prize. Indeed, amongst the early casualties was the EPT’s Grand Final third place finisher, Johnny Lodden. The Norwegian pro might have secured a career best cash of $612,355 in Monte Carlo, but on Day 1B of the EUREKA Main Event he found himself falling short of Day 2 when he lost a flip late in the session. In contrast to the fallen, Daniel Ebersold and Christian Kolke finished Day 1A and Day 1B on top. Having seen the field whittled down from 108 to just 36 on Day 1B, Ebersold’s 151,500 chip stack was enough to put him in control at the close of play. While that stack was enough to lead Day 1A, the overall chip lead going in to Day 2 belongs to Kolke. The online qualifier bagged 156,500 at the end of the day (despite not being able to count his stack properly) and will start today’s session in the lead. A selection of recognisable faces, including Dag Palovic (91,500), Matthias De Meulder (67,400) and Matej Marinovic (59,700), will also still be in the hunt for the title when the starting fields combine today.
