Esfandiari's at it again

Saturday, 8 December 2012

2012 has seen Antonio Esfandiari win a WSOPE bracelet and the not so small matter of $18m after taking the Big One for One Drop title. Could he be about to cap an amazing year by adding a WPT title to his collection?

The Magician goes into the penultimate day of the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Classic at Bellagio with the chip led with just 22 of the 502 starters remaining. There's plenty of class still in the hunt for the $1,268,571 first prize though including former World Poker Tour winners Shawn Buchanan, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Noah Schwartz, Scott Clements and Freddy Deeb.

Add to the mix the likes of Andrew Lichtenberger, Jon Aguiar, Greg Mueller, Andrew Robl, Brian Rast, Jeremy Ausmus and Jason Somerville and you've got a supremely competitive line up. Play resumes at 8pm UK time.

1 Antonio Esfandiari 1,597,000
2 Shawn Buchanan 1,290,000
3 Thomas Winters 1,250,000
4 Andrew Lichtenberger 1,107,000
5 Arthur Morris 863,000
6 Jeremy Kottler 851,000
