ElkY wins EPT Madrid High Roller

Sunday, 8 May 2011

Tournament winning machine Bertrand 'Elky' Grospellier has another major trophy to add to what must be a groaning mantelpiece after taking down the €25k buy-in EPT Final High Roller event in Madrid overnight.

Elky outlasted a high class final table that included the likes of PCA winner Galen Hall, Team PokerStrars pro Vanessa Rousso, Juha Helppi and David Sands before beating Benny Spindler heads up.

Grospellier went into two-handed play with the young German with a two to one chip deficit but a hyper aggressive strategy, a timely double up and hitting a full house against his opponent's trips sealed the bumper payday for ElkY who now has career earnings of over $6m.

ElkY said: “It feels really wonderful to win, as it’s over two years since my last major win at the PCA. This is the most prestigious of the EPT High Roller events as it’s the Grand Final.”

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, France, €525,000
2 Benny Spindler, Germany, €316,000
3 Juha Helppi, Finland, €185,000
4 David Sands, USA, €135,000
5 Vanessa Rousso, USA, €100,000
6 Alex Repik, Russia, €72,000
7 Galen Hall, USA, €57,500
8 Peter Jetten, Canada ,€45,000
