EPT Grand Final set; Alex Gomes chasing Triple Crown

EPT Grand Final set; Alex Gomes chasing Triple Crown

Thursday, 12 May 2011

After a long day of play the PokerStars European Poker Tour Grand Final in Madrid has reached a final eight with Ivan Freitez leading the field holding just under 30% of the chips. Eyes are on PokerStars Pro Alex Gomes, though, who is attempting to join Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe in the EPT-WSOP-WPT winners’ club.

Joining his fellow Team Pro at the final is Spain’s very own Juan Maceiras, currently second in chips and well poised to keep the inaugural EPT Madrid trophy on home soil. With blinds at 40k/80k the average stack is over 30 big blinds with Andrew Li the shortest in chips on 1.21m.

Each of the final eight players is guaranteed €130,000 for their efforts but with pay jumps in the five- and six-figure range no one wants to bust out in eighth. The winner of the event will be walking away with a cool €1,500,000.

The full final table chip counts are as follows:

1.Ivan Freitez – 5,995,000
2.Juan Maceiras – 3,150,000
3.Andrey Danilyuk – 2,645,000
4.Eugene Yanayt – 2,420,000
5.Torsten Brinkmann – 1,875,000
6.Alex Gomes – 1,670,000
7.Tamas Lendvai – 1,655,000
8.Andrew Li – 1,210,000

The final will start at 1pm UK time with real-time coverage on PokerStars.tv; commentary in English, Spanish, Dutch, German, Italian & Russian. It promises to be the largest televised poker broadcast in Europe.
