Du Plessis on Top in South Africa

Saturday, 9 November 2013

The opening flights of the WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic are in the book with home player Eugene Du Plessis the hare leading the chasing pack.

The South African was the only player to crack the 100,000 chip barrier yesterday (he returns with 142,100) and has a massive lead over nearest day 1B rivals Edward Pastoll (99,775) and Darren Kramer (77,175).

Notables to survive the second opening flight in Johannesburg were EPT San Remo winner Rupert Elder (46,200), PokerStars pro Leo Margets (34,500) and last year's runner up Jerome Bradpiece (11,850).

Joining them later today will be an impressive list of day 1a survivors including defending champ Dominik Nitsche, Gaelle Baumann, Barny Boatman, Ana Marquez, Bryn Kenney and Faraz Jaka.

The overall chip leaders heading into day 2 are as follows:

1 Eugene du Plessis 142,100
2 Nahum Lum 123,725
3 Rob Fenner 112,050
4 Mauro De Rose 105,575
5 Leon Govindsamy 100,500
6 Edward Pastoll 99,775

The action resumes at 1pm local time.
