Deadman Walks Away with WPT Dublin

Monday, 7 January 2013

The latter half of 2012 proved to be highly successful for Simon Deadman with victory in the GUKPT Blackpool Main Event for almost £50,000 and a runner up finish in the Genting Poker Series in Stoke earning him another £30,000. The Nottingham-native has started 2013 just as he ended 2012 with victory in a major tournament, in this case the PKR.com WPT National Dublin Main Event.

Deadman pocketed €67,500 after outlasting a field of 238 runners at the Irish capital's Citywest Hotel, working his way through a final table that included UKIPT Edinburgh champ Fintan Gavin, Ben Carpenter and Jack Salter. After start of day chip leader Sean Prendiville was eliminated in third after losing a flip with JJ to Deadman's AQ, it was left to Joachim Haraldstad to derail the Englishman's quest for Dublin glory.

The key hand of heads up play saw the majority of chips hit the middle on a Kh-8c-5h board with Deadman tabling KQ and Haraldstad 7h-3h. The Norwegian whiffed on his draw though and was left extremely short. He looked in decent shape for a double up soon after though, getting it in with K-10 and against Deadman's 9-10. A 9 on the flop changed everything though and with no King on the turn and river Deadman was celebrating another fine tournament victory.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Simon Deadman €67500
2 Joachim Haraldstad €47100
3 Sean Prendiville €30250
4 Jack Salter €22350
5 Ben Carpenter €16750
6 Tommy O Rourke €13750
7 Daniel Laming €11250
8 Fintan Gavin €8900
9 Phillip Danner €6700
10 Charley Harvey €4900
