Dave Shallow wins UKIPT Nottingham High Roller
Thursday, 8 May 2014
UKIPT Nottingham got off to a flier yesterday with the plenty of notable names hitting the Dusk Till Dawn tables for the £1m Main Event. The first big money was awarded too as a top draw £3,000+£300 High Roller event reached its climax.
Inaugural WPT Ireland champ Dave Shallow and Richard Kellet were the men celebrating in the latter event with the each taking £68,000 apiece after agreeing a heads up chop. Shallow had the slightly bigger stack so he took the trophy and the first place Hendon Mob flag.
The pair worked their way through a stacked 101-runner field that included such luminaries as double EPT champ Victoria Coren, Sam Trickett, Matt Perrins, Chris Brammer, Craig McCorkell and the red hot Simon Deadman.
The final table was none too shabby either, featuring the likes of Steve Warburton, Patryk Slusarek and David LaRonde. Nobody couldn't match Shallow and Kellet though. The pair started the final table in first and second and couldn't be budged. But why a chop? Shallow told the PokerStars Blog, "We're still deep, I'm tired and I have the upmost respect for my opponent."
