Daniel “jungleman12” Cates beats Ivey and Isildur1

Saturday, 22 January 2011

Daniel Cates has proved unafraid to prove himself (awkward sentence) time and time again at the high stakes heads-up games. Yesterday he repeated the feat after taking on Phil Ivey and Isildur1 over a period of seven hours and emerging a winner to the tune of more than a quarter of a million dollars.

Firstly, jungleman12 sat down with Ivey for less than 150 hands of $300/$600 PLO but that was all he needed to take a $240,000 win. He was helped immensely by a $269,000 pot that was 4-bet pre-flop and saw Ivey put all his chips in on a Ah-Jh-8c board. He held A-K-T- for the nut flush draw, a backdoor club draw and a double gutshot. Unfortunately for him the other two aces showed up in Cates’s hand along with two of his hearts and despite turning a club draw he couldn’t suck out.

Cates then played Isildur1 at PokerStars (jungleman12’s PokerStars alias is w00ki3z) over several $25/$50 NL tables during which Isildur1 made over $60,000. After three hours and 1,911 hands they moved up to $50/$100 and played for over 2,000 hands more. In the end, Cates won $101,000 to make him a near $40,000 winner on PokerStars and pocket a tidy profit for the day.
