Daniel Cates Claims SCOOP Title

Monday, 12 May 2014

Another slew of PokerStars SCOOP events took place this weekend and amongst the players taking home winner's watches was Dan Cates.

Playing under his less familiar handle 'w00ki3z' (as opposed to 'Jungleman'), the American pro managed to defeat all before him in Event #14-H to bank $95,040.

The $2,100 PLO Heads-Up tournament saw a host of world-class grinders take to the virtual felt but when it came to the final four it was Cates who dominated. After dispatching with 'xxMatSon' in third, Cates was able to topple the Ukraine's 'LEXER1996' in his final match to claim his first SCOOP title.

Also tasting the sweet nectar of success was Ireland's John O'Shea. Despite facing a veritable murderer's row in the $2,100 PLO 6-max event, O'Shea was able to squeeze through to the final table and take control.

Whilst a selection of European talent was set to the rail during the final, O'Shea's stack grew and by the time he found himself heads-up with Phil Galfond for the title.

A back-and-forth battle ensued but by the time the chips had fallen it was O'Shea who scooped the $147,840 top prize after his Ah 9h 3s 2d caught enough of the board to beat Galfond's 9d 8c 6c 4d.
