French high-stakes poker professional and Sky Sports Million Dollar Cash Game player Cyril Mouly sustained only minor injuries earlier this week following a vicious attack in Paris that left his driver dead.

Mouly first came to the attention of the poker world as ‘the Frenchman’ in the Big Game in Las Vegas and also appeared on FullTilt Poker’s Million Dollar Cash Game as the man seemingly unable to fold a top pair.

Having captivated the imaginations of forum regulars, he soon became a Photoshop hero but his life away from the felt was often somewhat chequered and he even found himself in court last month facing fraud charges. This could have been one of the reasons behind the attack by two masked men, which happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning as Mouly was returning from a party.

After fending off the attackers with help from his driver, Mouly ran to a local police office to report the incident. Upon returning to the scene, authorities discovered the chauffeur dead on the ground with multiple stab wounds to his neck and chest.

It’s as yet unclear what prompted the attack and whether it was linked to the poker player’s personal life or just a random act of violence. Police are still investigating the matter while Mouly comes to terms with the death of his driver.
