The opening leg of the new Genting Poker Series season is in the book with Chris Johnson the first name inked into 2015 roll of honour.
Johnson has enjoyed plenty of success in the online game playing under the moniker 'Makkapak' including taking down the PokerStars Sunday Million in April last year for over $191k. The midlander showed that his live tournament skills are pretty hot too after topping a 404 runner field at Star City in Birmingham over the weekend.Johnson dominated the final table and after Thomas Clack was elminated in fourth the final trio agreed a chop which would eventually see Hui Jin and Irishman Tony McTiernan (who was down to 3 BB at one stage on Saturday) taking £22,880 apiece and 'Makkapak' £37,000.With all but £380 sewn up, it didn't take long for Johnson to seal victory, busting Jin first with poocket tens against Q8, then stacking McTiernan when his pocket threes held against 10-7.The win in Birmingham was Johnson's second major cause for celebration in recent weeks as he's just become a father for the third time.GPS Birmingham Final Table Payouts1st - £37,000 - Chris Johnson2nd - £22,880 - Tony McTiernan3rd - £22,880 - Hui Jin4th - £13,420 - Thomas Clack5th - £9,690 - Kev Parkes6th - £7,440 - Mark Evans7th - £5,810 - Baljit Singh8th - £4,040 - Miguel King9th - £2,830 - Shaun Walsh10th - £1,520 - Ali Zihni The Genting Poker Series heads to Essex for its next stop with the Genting Club in Westcliff the venue from 16 to 22 March.
