Chef Darren Woods Stirs Up UKIPT Lead

Sunday, 5 October 2014

Full-time chef and part-time poker player Darren Woods is cooking up a storm at the PokerStars UKIPT Isle of Man. The local player has a massive chip lead with just 40 players remaining heading into the penultimate day in Douglas.

Woods will return on Sunday with 907,500, more than double the stack of his closest rival, Full Tilt Ambassador Martins Adeniya (448,000). Local qualifier David Hill (382,000) is third, followed by this year's Hollywood Poker Open winner, Simon Deadman (375,500) in fourth. Rounding out the top five is Rational Group staff member Ian Marmion (333,500).

A big name winner could yet emerge with Fintan Gavin (260,000), PokerStars Team Online's Adrienne Rowsome (227,000), Lee Jones (120,000), Victoria Coren-Mitchell (77,500), UKIPT Marbella champ Ludovic Geillich (77,000) and Olympic medalist and 2013 Isle of Man runner-up Fatima Moreira De Melo (58,500) all still in the hunt.

There'll be no big win for the likes of Mickey Petersen, Sam Grafton, Dara Davey and Team PokerStars Pro Chris De Meulder who all hit the rail on Saturday.

The Main Event action will resume at noon where the final forty will be whittled down to a final table of eight.
