Chaplin Collects WCOAP Title

Wednesday, 23 April 2014

While festivities at the Irish Poker Open in Dublin kept many grinders occupied over the Easter weekend, a healthy selection of grinders were able to fulfil their poker fix at the annual World Championship Of Amateur Poker (WCOAP) from the Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT).

Held at London's Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford City venue, the 2014 edition of the WCOAP welcomed amateur players from across Europe as they went in search of real success on the live poker scene.

The five-day WCOAP featured a number of events but hit a high note on April 21 with the conclusion of its heads-up event, which was won by Pak To, in addition to the £20 buy-in main event.

Consisting of two opening flights along with a final session, the three-day main event was won by Tristan Chaplin after he was able to overcome a weak starting stack and grind his way to the title. Patience was the key as the eventual champion picked his moments against the likes of Guy Taylor, Rod Davies and Rob Quinn.

Having watched all but Levente Varga fall around him, Chaplin soon put on a display of power poker as he first reversed his chip deficit and then scooped the title thanks to his Kh 6s seeing off his opponent's 6d 5s. For his efforts, Chaplin collected a winner's trophy as well as a cash prize of £7,500.

APAT WCOAP Main Event Final Results:

1. Tristan Chaplin – £7,500

2. Levente Varga – £5,000

3. Anthony Gale – £3,400

4. Rob Quinn – £2,450

5. Stephen Howell – £1,800

6. Claire MacGregor – £1,470

7. Rod Davies – £1,220

8. Dan Crabbe – £975
