While Ted Forrest debates whether or not to fight Mike Matusow for $1.8 million, Daniel Cates has also decided to go on the offensive against Tom 'durrrr' Dwan.
Having agreed to play Dwan in a much publicised high stakes challenge back in 2010, Cates has become increasingly frustrated with his opponent after numerous failed attempts to complete the match. The original deal was the Dwan would play anybody in the world heads-up over 50,000 hands and if they were able to beat him, he'd pay them $1.5 million. However, just over 20,000 hands into the challenge and four years later, the match still isn't complete and Dwan is now seemingly refusing to play any more after falling $1.5 million behind Cates.According to Cates, despite Dwan drawing up a list of promises, he's yet to keep to the timeline he proposed and now owes Cates an extra $300,000 in penalties, on top of the $1.5 million he stands to lose on the prop bet.Speaking about the issue to Pokerlistings in a recent interview, Cates reiterated his frustration, saying: "He failed to uphold any promises he made to me. He is extremely frustrating, it's outrageous. I feel like he won't complete it."The American pro went on to say that he won't reveal secrets about Dwan's personal life, "yet", but he is "not thrilled with anything I hear about him, his friend says he won't do business with him anymore because he's totally insane."
