Cake Poker buy TJ Cloutier’s WSOP bracelet

Friday, 29 January 2010

Recently we reported that TJ Cloutier’s bracelet won in the 2005 WSOP $5,000 NLHE event was up for sale on eBay. A pawn shop in Texas was selling the prize, stating they received it from TJ himself. Reports that he pawned it for craps money are unfounded but likely true.

Cake Poker, one of the top five largest online poker networks, has bought the bracelet at the Buy It Now price of $2,500. That’s probably about ten minutes rake even with Cake’s generous 33% rakeback offer.

However, what Cake are doing with the bracelet surprised us. No, it’s not a prize in a freeroll or available in their VIP store. In fact, the network are giving it back to it’s rightful owner – the man who won it, poker legend TJ Cloutier.

“As much as we would love to have a WSOP bracelet, or even award it to one of our cherished poker players, we can’t, in good conscience, keep it from the man who rightfully won it; which is why we’ve decided to return it to TJ Cloutier… just as soon as we’re done having some fun with it,” stated the Cake Poker blog.
