Bozinovic takes WPT Baden

Bozinovic takes WPT Baden

Monday, 25 February 2013

Despite having Marvin Rettenmaier hot on his heels in search of his third WPT title at the start of yesterday’s WPT Baden final table, Vladimir Bozinovic managed to scoop his first major title.

The Serbian player had successfully dodged and swerved his way past 248 players across four days of action to start yesterday’s finale with the largest stack.

However, despite his chip dominance the bulk of the community’s attention was on German pro, Rettenmaier.

Aiming to bag his third Tour title within 12 months, the pressure seemed to take hold of Marvin as he could only muster a fifth place finish after his Kh Qs ran into the Ac Qc of Kimmo Kurko.

With the toughest player in the final now watching from the rail it was time for Bozinovic to make his presence felt.

First Rettenmaier’s executioner, Kurko, fell to Bozinovic, before Oswin Zieglebecker’s Ac Tc couldn’t overtake the Serbian’s As Kh.

Bozinovic got a big slice of luck when heads up against Paul Berende though. The Dutchman looked in great shape to take the title, getting all the chips in with AQ against the Bozinovic's QJ. A 10-9-2 board provided a bit of a sweat but the 5 on the turn was a blank. Anything but an 8 or a king would have given Berende the title but sure enough, an 8 fell on the river. With that, the momentum completely shifted and after a short exchange the tournament came to a close when Berende’s Ac 8c narrowly lost out to Bozinovic’s As 9s.

WPT Baden Final Result:
1 Vladimir Bozinovic $271,258
2 Paul Berende $172,695
3 Oswin Ziegelbecker $111,587
4 Kimmo Kurko $81,034
5 Marvin Rettenmaier $59,496
6 Grzegorz Wyraz $47,820
