Benny Spindler wins EPT London Main Event
Friday, 7 October 2011
It's been a pretty amazing couple of weeks for Benny Spindler. The German pro has crushed the online cash games to the tune of $500,000 and just added a further £750,000 to his bankroll after taking down the EPT London Main Event.
The 26-year-old has called the capital home for the past 12 months and has fond memories of the Hilton Metropole after a 12th place finish at last year's EPT London. Spindler started the final day third in the chip counts but moved into a dominant position after winning a massive flip with tens over AK to send local lad Martins Adeniya to the rail in seventh. He put his huge stack to excellent use thereafter, eliminating Kevin Iacofono, Mattias Bergstrom and Juan Manuel Pastor in quick succession.
After Andre Klebanov bowed out in third it was left to Steven O'Dwyer to try and halt the Spindler express. The American couldn't overturn an almost two to one chip lead though, bowing out when his KJ ran into Spindler's AK. Taking £465,000 back to Pennsylvania should provide some consolation though.
Spindler, who finished second in the EPT Grand Final Madrid High Roller event in May, took home a tidy £750,000 for his efforts.
"I was never sure of the win. In fact I got really lucky with that pair of tens against Martins Adeniya's ace-king. I had been running really well the whole tournament and it was good to win that huge flip," Spindler told the PokerStars blog.
The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
1. Benny Spindler, Germany, £750,000
2. Steve O'Dwyer, USA, £465,000
3. Andre Klebanov, Germany, £265,000
