Ben Foxwell has been crowned student's poker king after winning the GUKPT Student Poker Championships. A huge field of 469-runner were on hand at the G Casino at Coventry's Ricoh Arena but none could match Foxwell who put on a dominating final day show.

Foxwell went into the final table second in the chip counts but proceeded to destroy the opposition, eliminating all eight of his rivals.

Andrew Symeou was the first to go when his A8 ran into Foxwell's AJ. Arthur Villa's QQ looked good against Foxwell's A2 but an ace on the flop sent him to the rail. Neither Matt Butcher nor Simon Priddis could get a break with their short-stacked shoves and Sunny Kalcutt hit the rail shortly after when his K10 push ran into Foxwell's KJ. Han Zhang was next to go when his K3 couldn't come from behind to beat Foxwell's 66s with Matt Takaro busting in third when his A8 ran into Foxwell's QQ.

That left Lucas Durney with the unenviable task of trying to overturn a 10 to 1 chip deficit and unsurprisingly he couldn't manage it with Foxwell sealing the win after rivering a 10 holding J-10 to beat Durney's K3.

Foxwell walked away with a first prize of £3,540 and a seat into the GUKPT Grand Final worth £2,000. Not bad for a £30 buy-in!

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Ben Foxwell £3,540
2 Lucas Durney £2,100
3 Matt Takaro £1,405
4 Han Zhang £1,055
5 Sunny Kalcutt £915
6 Simon Priddis £775
7 Matt Butcher £630
8 Arthur Villa £425
9 Andrew Symeou £245

The GUKPT proper returns next month with the G Casino, Didsbury, Manchester the venue for the six-day festival. Qualifiers for the £500 Main Event are up and running at Blue Square Poker.
