BLOG – The British are coming! Also, Phil Ivey’s masseuse

I know, apparently there’s some big tournament series on in Las Vegas or something but first I must talk about this thread on the Two Plus Two forums which has very possibly won the Internet.

It comes from this sixteen-page monster where the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is the News, Views and Gossip sub-forum photoshopped up a now-infamous picture of Phil Ivey being massaged at a poker tournament.

It’s hilarious because a user called ‘themasseuse:)’ began posting in the thread; obviously some fake account created by a bored forum poster?

Wrong. The actual masseuse updated her Facebook status (Dana Perianu) and the thread exploded, bombarding her with questions and borderline sexual harassment. In all fairness she is really quite attractive and the Internet is full of creepy types.

Anyway, onto the pertinent point – the World Series of Poker. Neil Channing came very close to netting his first bracelet yesterday when he reached the final table of the $5,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em Shootout event. Without bias, easily the best live player at the table and he was very unlucky not to win the whole shebang.

Praz Bansi, on the other hand, has done rather well for himself. His second WSOP bracelet (the first coming in 2006 in the $1,000 NL event for a quarter of a million) has also netted the Hit Squaddie over half a million bucks, which is nice. For him. The jammy rich sod.

So it looks like we Brits are making a firm presence on the world stage. Both Jameseses (Akenhead and Mitchell, of course) are in attendance at the WSOP and the former will look to be improving on his bridesmaid finishes in previous years while the latter will want to expand on his Irish open win.

Let’s not of course forget our seasoned pros – Devilfish is still alive in the $10,000 Stud; Roland de Wolfe has pledged to play a fair few events this year and Stuart Rutter joined Channing at the final table of the $5,000 shootout.

I wonder if I could get odds at the bookies for a British main event winner?
