Austrian wins Betfair Poker Live! Vienna

Wednesday, 22 December 2010

The Montesino Pokertainment Centre in Vienna was the venue for the latest leg of the Betfair Poker Live! series and there was a home victory to keep the Austrian rail happy.

Markus Stoeger outlasted a 595 field in the €100k guaranteed event to take home a first prize of €30,680. Stoeger went into heads up play against fellow Austrian Christian Kern with a three to one chip deficit but one crucial hand completely changed the momentum.

After an initial raise from Stoeger, Kern put the short stack all in. A pot committed Stoeger made the call holding K6 and looked in pretty bad shape against Kern's AQ. A dream flop of K-6-4 rainbow gave Stoeger a huge pot though and the momentum shifting hand carried him forward to victory. The end came soon after when Stoeger's AK held up against Kern's 87.

The final table position and payouts were as follows:

1: Markus Stoeger (Austria) €30,680 ?
2: Christian Kern (Austria) €21,200
3: Manoj Chamakala (Germany) €14,100
