Andy Frankenberger wins WPT Legends of Poker

Andy Frankenberger wins WPT Legends of Poker

Thursday, 26 August 2010

Andy Frankenberger started the final day of the WPT Legends of Poker main event at The Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles as chip leader and ended it as the winner. Playing at his first WPT final table Frankenberger saw off challenges from seasoned pros Tom Lee and Kyle Wilson who had both finished sixth in previous WPT events at The Bike.

Both finished better this time round (third and second respectively) but neither proved a match for the New Yorker. Frankenberger held an almost 5 to 1 chip lead going into heads up play with Kyle Wilson and put that stack to good advantage almost immediately. In just the sixth hand of heads up play, with the blinds at 60k/120k and a 20k ante, Frankenberger raised to 275k. Wilson re-raised, pushing his remaining 2.65m chips in the middle. The New Yorker called revealing Ac9c, putting him in excellent shape against Wilson Ad3d. A 9d7d5c gave Frankenberger top pair but the flush draw was certainly a worry. The turn and river were both blanks though giving Frankenberger the biggest win of his career. As well as the obligatory bracelet, Frankenberger is also the proud owner of a specially made statue of gunfighter and lawman Wild Bill Hickok.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st:  Andy Frankenberger  -  $750,000
2nd:  Kyle Wilson  -  $370,000
3rd:  Tom Lee  -  $174,772
4th:  Tom Braband  -  $109,000
5th:  Jared Jaffee  -  $86,000
6th:  Franco Brunetti  -  $63,000

The World Poker Tour heads to England for its next event. The WPT London Classic gets under way at the Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair on 30th August with many of the biggest names in the game taking part in the £5,000 buy-in Main Event. Bluff Europe will of course be on hand with all the new from what promises to be a great start to the London Poker Festival.
