Allan Baekke leads EPT San Remo

Allan Baekke leads EPT San Remo

Tuesday, 20 April 2010

It was another fast paced day on the Italian Riviera yesterday with the 66 returning players soon whittled down to just 24. At the close of play it was Denmark's Allan Baekke who held the chip lead.

The EPT Snowfest winner ended the day with a stack of over 3.4 million chips, almost 1m ahead of nearest rival, Irishman Dermot Blain. The Dane boosted his already strong position by making the final elimination of the day. The unlucky player who ran into Baekke's pocket kings was Gijs Verheien with AJ. The board brought the Dutchman no help leaving Baekke in with a great chance of unprecedented back to back EPT Main Event victories.

British interest is provided by Liv Boeree and Michael Piper who both have just over 1m chips, way behind Baekke but more than enough to make an impact when play resumes. The 24 will become eight later today with those reaching the final table guaranteed at least €90,000.

The action gets under way today at 1pm.
