Local lad Ali Ayub is the latest Genting Poker Series winner after topping a bumper field at Dusk Till Dawn on Sunday.
632 poker hopefuls were in Nottingham over the weekend, hoping for a share of a prize pool that was just north of a quarter of a million pounds. The final day started with 30 players chasing glory and after a slew of early eliminations we were soon down to a final table of nine with Hamid Rowshanaei. With some serious money on the line it was hardly a surprise that play took a more cagey turn and it took a full three hours for the first finalist to hit the rail. That person was Eirimas Livonas who was joined one hand later by Michael Howard. The aforementioned Rowshanaei was the next to go, unable to win a flip with pocket sixes against Ali Ayub's AK. Steve Watts joined the queue at the cashiers' cage when his AJ couldn't come from behind to beat last year's GPS Newcastle champ, Ellie Biessek's AQ.After the challenges of Ziggy Jockus and Chris Sly fell in fifth and fourth respectively, the final trio agreed a chop which saw chip leader Biessek take the lion's share of the cash. With the just the trophy at stake, the final three didn't mess around with Mark Elliot the first out after running his A10 into Ayub's pocket rockets.Biessek put up a good fight but Ayub wouldn't be denied, sealing victory after rivering a king to beat the Pole's ace high. The GPS Nottingham Payouts:1st - £40,255 - Ali Ayub***2nd - £50,680 - Ellie Biessek***3rd - £35,760 - Mark Elliot***4th - £17,500 - Chris Sly5th - £12,750 - Ziggy Jockus6th - £9,500 - Steve Watts 7th - £7,500 - Hamid Rowshanaei8th - £5,500 - Michael Howard9th - £3,750 - Eirimas Livonas Image courtesy of Genting Poker.
