Akenhead in the hunt at NAPT Mohegan Sun

Friday, 9 April 2010

There may be only one UK player left out of the 125 remaining runners at the latest North American Poker Tour event but quality more than makes up for quantity. The man in question is none other than James Akenhead who currently sits in 6th place with a stack of just under half a million chips.

The double WSOP main event finalist isn't the only big name still battling for the $750,000 first prize. Still in the hunt are Vanessa 'suckoutqueen' Selbst, who lived up to her nickname after cracking an opponents cowboys with her pocket queens, Sorel Mizzi, Vanessa Rousso and current chip leader Jordan Morgan.

All eyes will be on Phil Ivey though who ended day two in 13th place despite spending most of the day with one eye on the golf action at the Masters. Given the great man's penchant for sports betting there's a more than decent chance that there's some money riding on Tiger Woods' performance at Augusta.

The leading chip counts going into day 3 are as follows:

Jordan Morgan 705,100
Firas Massouh 571,000
Vanessa Selbst 542,600
Alistar Melville 513,000
Brandon Hall 491,500
James Akenhead 463,700
Ryan D'Angelo 450,800
Lars Bonding 443,100
Sorel Mizzi 442,500
Travis Klein 417,400

Phil Ivey 356,600

The action resumes today at 5pm UK time.
