The record-breaking field of 1,099 runners at UKIPT London is down to just 49 with Spain's Sergio Aido Espina leading the charge for the almost £157k first prize.

Espina will start the penultimate day at The Vic with a stack of 946,000 giving him a healthy lead over Georgios Zisimopoulos from Greece who sits in second and Canadian pro Olivier Busquet who returns in third on 741,000. Jonathan Prested leads the home challenge in fourth on 660,000 with another Canadian, Jason Duval rounding out the top five on 624,000.

Other notables still in contention for the six-figure score include last year's GUKPT Coventry runner up Richard Trigg (473,000), Tom Hall (345,000), Dara O'Kearney (232,000), UKIPT Brighton winner Jamie Burland (223,000) and Sky Poker TV regular Ryan Spittles (129,000).

Start of day chip leader Wojtek Barzantny's quest for a third UKIPT title ended yesterday with the German busting in 138th for a min-cash of £1,200. Joining him on the rail were the likes of Mathew Frankland, Kevin MacPhee, Paul Zimbler, Willie Tann, Patryk Slusarek, David Vamplew and Ben Jackson.

The action resumes at noon today when the remaining 49 runners will play down to a final table of eight.
