November Nine Profile - Joe Cada

November Nine Profile - Joe Cada

Monday, 27 July 2009

The November Nine this year is full of poker clichés: Darvin Moon, the humble working-class Joe who is riding the tsunami of luck gifted to him; Phil Ivey, the veteran tournament professional with gamble in his blood; and Joe Cada, the online whizzkid.

This is his first WSOP as he has only just turned 21. Despite this, however, he has over $200,000 in online earnings. Used to putting in the hours, he was rewarded for his dedication at this year’s WSOP:

“I played around 16 to 18 events and then the Main Event. It was a long and grueling tournament,” he said after the WSOP proper where he cashed twice in other events as well as the Main Event.

The young, analytical player has a head for figures and has grand plans even beyond winning the Main Event: “Professionally, I’ve been playing poker for four years,” he states. “I went to school for three semesters. I want to start my own business soon, so I went for business classes, accounting classes, and statistics too.”

Playing as jcada99 on Full Tilt Poker and UltimateBet, he is ranked on PocketFives.com and enjoys a string of four- and five-figure tournament results. Most recently he came second in Full Tilt’s $150r $200k Guaranteed tournament for over $45,000.

So how does the slow, rumbling behmoth of the Main Event compare to turbo online tournaments for Cada? “Playing in so many tournaments, you’re used to going out early or going deep, but there’s nothing like the Main Event.”
