 Jonathan Jaffe Wins WPT Montreal

Thursday, 27 November 2014

After Matas Cimbolas' heroics in Nottingham last week, it hasn't taken long for the World Poker Tour to crown another champion after Jonathan Jaffe took down WPT Montreal.

The American pro topped a field of 732 runners at the Playground Poker Club to pocket a score of $429,106.

Jaffe started the six-man final table with the chip lead but faced tough competition from a high class last six that included Guillaume Nolet, Mukul Pahuja, Kevin MacPhee and Samuel Chartier. With that quartet safely behind the rail, it was left to Jaffe and Ratharam Sivagnanam to battle it out for the title.

Jaffe went into two-handed play with a three to one chip advantage but a swingy heads-up encounter saw Sivagnanam briefly gain the ascendency. The man from Massachusetts wasn't to be denied though, eventually prevailing when his AcKc held against Sivagnanam's 10d8d.

The win in Montreal is the second largest payday in Jaffe's career. A runner-up finish in the 2008 WPT Championship event saw him pocket $670,376. This latest triumph takes his career earnings past the $2 million mark.
